An illustrated guide to 'Black Work' - of all the methods of embroidery black work is probably the most
refined and distinguished. It is the embroiderer's art at one of its greatest moments, when a
nice balance has been struck between pattern and technique, and miracles of invention are performed
with a single strand of black silk, brightened occasionally with touches of gold and a scattering
of spangles.
